I couldn’t be more thankful.
“m u n d a n e.” is my approach to developing poetic imagery of people, places, and things.
It is the foundation of my work and what brings emotion to play in every image. It is the perspective that anything, even the imperfections, can be art and is worth celebrating. The way the sun falls on bed sheets, fingers intertwining, or steam escaping a fresh cup of coffee. It goes beyond visuals. It is capturing the essence of the craftsmanship of an item, or the sense of history leading up to one moment… whether big or small.
Mundane by Kate Starkel is a collection of stories told through photography and art direction. I specialize in designing carefully curated and intentional imagery that illustrates your story. I am currently serving branding clients. wedding couples, and the special in-betweens.I am a passionate, published branding photographer and art director, and wedding photographer based in Louisville, KY. My husband, Colby, and I have a three year old and just almost one year old. Between our babies and our work, we try our best to live a lifestyle that inspired me to design this branch,
This brand is a lifestyle that we truly value and instill into our day-to-day lives to appreciate and find beauty in everything. Remembering to slow down. I take this mindset into my photography and creative direction to maintain an intentional and personal approach to whatever project I am working on, whether it be products, brand development, a wedding, or a couple in their living room just enjoying the presence of each other. All are equally special to me.
I began my “art career” as a touring model, and then in musician portraiture via my husband and I’s brand, Bad Velvet. Designed in 2019, it has been a shared creative space for us and began as a music production and visual curation brand.
I have now worked with interior designers, leather crafters, bakeries, event stylists, florists, and more. Over the years I have developed a discipline to truly dial in my crafts enough to master what I love, but also allow myself to use my multi-passionate personality to the fullest. It has been such a process of fine-tuning these passions into the creative journey that I am on today and designing m u n d a n e . as my photography and creative direction brand. I am so incredibly thankful for the opportunities and the folks who have trusted me to tell the stories of their hearts, or special moments… it has been a thrill getting to invest in this work.
Cheers to my past, present, and future creative partners.
